While we have stated that removing or adding editable regions to your DWTIG compliant DWT will cause it to be non-compliant, there are certain things you can do to make the most of the DWT prior to attaching it to the web pages.

Initial Attachment: Editing Editable Regions on the Actual DWT

If you desire the same content in an editable region on each and every page, you may add that content on the .dwt within the editable region, replacing the existing comment with your own content.  This is a desirable feature for those wishing to repeat the same META keywords and/or description across the web.  Simply make the changes prior to attaching the template, and they will go forward within the editable region in lieu of the comment on all pages the DWT is attached to.

Please note that ANY change to an Editable Region made on the DWT will NOT apply across your web to any page to which a prior DWT has been attached.

Attaching a DWT to a Page Using Included Content

If your web contained included content prior to your attaching a DWT, you may elect to either continue using the included content, or copying the included content into a non-editable area of the DWT itself.  The Dynamic ability of the DWT in updating your web pages has eliminated the need for included pages; however, your web will function as designed if you choose to use them.

Making Additional DWTs

You may choose to make changes to the design layout of some of your pages while keeping the initial DWT intact for other pages.  You can easily accomplish this by creating a new DWT.  Simply open an existing DWT in the FrontPage Design View, then select File, Save as.  Give the template a new name, and select the Dynamic Web Template in the "Save as type" field.  You may then make your changes and attach the new DWT to the pages of your choice on your web.
